What to Do on Your PTE Core Test Day

Before the Test:

Report to the test centre at least 30 minutes before your scheduled test time to avoid being disqualified for late arrival.
Provide a valid ID: a passport is required everywhere, and a Canadian PR card is also acceptable if the student is from Canada.
Your identity will be confirmed by the Test Administrator via an ID check, biometrics, and a photo. Make sure your ID matches your test booking information to avoid complications.
You will be instructed clearly on test centre procedures before the exam begins.
Leave all personal items in the lockers provided before entering the test room.

During the Exam:

  • PTE Core is a two-hour test which has an assessment of English proficiency through Speaking, Writing, Reading, and Listening.
  • The test taker sits in the individual semi cubicle section which is equipped with a desktop, a headset, a erasable marker and a notepad.
  • While taking Speaking module, a noisy environment is expected as multiple candidates are taking exam at one time in the enclosed room. This is the reason that high-quality headset is provided to each test taker which minimizes distractions.
  • All the activities by the test taker are recorded as the they are under the surveillance of CCTV cameras which detect suspicious activities if found.

After the Exam:

  • Once the test taker submits the exam, he/she can leave the centre immediately.
  • Results are available from 24 hours to five business days.
  • The student gets the mail once the score is available and to check the score:
    1. Log in to the official Pearson PTE website.
    2. Navigate to “My Account”.
    3. Click on “View Score Report”.
  • If you face any issues accessing your results, contact Pearson customer support.

Section-Wise Practice Tips for the PTE Core

Speaking Section:

Stay Calm: If you stumble on a question, take a deep breath and keep going. Each question is scored independently.

Speak Naturally: Focus on clear pronunciation and a steady pace. Do not try to speak in an accent, just be natural.

Keep Talking: If you make a mistake, do not stop or correct yourself. Maintain fluency.

Improve Pronunciation: Try tricky sounds and plural forms in complete sentences for accuracy.

Use Your Notepad: Jot down key points for tasks such as Describe Image or Respond to a Situation so that you are structured well.

Familiarize yourself with image prompts: Expose yourself to different types of images to describe them fluently.

Train for noisy environments: Train in slightly distracting surroundings to simulate real test conditions.

Writing Section:

Manage your time: Although typing speed helps, you must structure your responses within the given time.

Follow a clear format: Organize essays with an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion.

Stay on Topic: Your answer should be to the point, not wordy.

Word Count: Keep it within the prescribed limits—25-50 words for Summarize Written Text and 50-120 words for Write an Email.

Summary Mastery: Take the essence of the message and put it in a well-framed sentence with proper punctuation.

Reading Section:

Time Yourself: The Reading section takes about 29-30 minutes. Don't spend too much time on one question.

Watch for Negative Marking: Some questions penalize incorrect answers, so answer strategically.

Polish Your Grammar: The Reading section also tests grammar. A quick revision of essential rules can be beneficial.

Listening Section:

Time Management is Key: This section runs for 30-43 minutes, so allocate time wisely across different question types.

Active Listening is Crucial: Audio plays only once—stay alert and take concise notes.

Use the Erasable Notepad: Capture key points without getting distracted from the audio.

Boost Your Score: The listening section significantly impacts your overall score. Aiming for 70+ is achievable with practice.

Relax Before the Test: Meditation or deep breathing can improve focus and reduce stress.
