Understanding Highlight Incorrect Words

It is the seventh type of question in a Listening module. In this task, an audio is automatically played after 10 seconds and you are required to identify the words which do not match the transcript by selecting the words in the transcript. You will listen to the audio once only. It assesses Listening and Reading skills.

  • Prompt Length: 15-50 seconds.
  • Skills Assessed: Listening and Reading
  • Time to Answer: Not applicable
  • Skills Profile: Multiple Skill Comprehension 
  • No. of Tasks: 2-3

 

Scoring of Highlight Incorrect Words 

Partial credit applies in Highlight Incorrect Words, for each correct selection student gets score and there is a negative marking if the word selected doesn’t differ from the audio. If all the selected words differ from the audio, then the test taker is given full marks.

 

Tips & Tricks for Highlight Incorrect Words

  • After 10 seconds the audio of the sentence is played automatically, student should quickly go through the transcript in the given time.
  • Keep the cursor in the start of the transcript and keep moving it along with the transcript. Move from one word to another and match the speed of the audio.
  • Keep yourself with the speaker, if you start thinking or assuming anything then you may be left behind and will not match the audio.
  • Select the incorrect word by clicking the word with the left button of the mouse. You can deselect the word again clicking the left button.

 

Test tips

  • Try to recognize the pronunciation and keep your focus on each and every word said the transcript, if any mismatch immediately, select the word and move ahead.
  • Don’t guess or assume as you may lose marks.
  • Do not change your mind unless you are 100% sure.

 

Preparation

Find various topics in the form of podcast and lectures and listen the words and try to recognize the pronunciation. Try to get familiar with the English accent of the different speakers and how they

Notes

Partial credit is provided in HIGHLIGHT INCORRECT WORDS, there will be no score for no response selected but there will be a negative marking for an irrelevant response. This question type has an impact on Listening and Reading module.
