How to construct the answer of the given topic

The time provided to write an email on the given topic is 9 minutes.

Tips for Writing an Email

First of all, Analyze the statement:

Before you start typing the response, plan your email by going through the given statement twice. Write down the points to discuss in the email along with the keywords to be used in the Email. Type all the information in the prompt. While typing the email, the focus has to be on the details of the email in which the purpose of the email is to be covered and afterwards the explanation to all the THREE bullet points is required. The test taker has to be focused on punctuation, grammar, linking words and spellings.

While analyzing of the email the test taker starts with the brain storming which helps the test taker to get ready with the purpose and the answer to all the given points. For instance, while getting prepared with the purpose of the email, you need to be ready with the plan whether to start as a formal, semi formal or informal letter.  While analyzing, the student has to be ready with the purpose as per the statement, is it the disappointment or any requirement letter or is a letter to a friend in which some information or assistance is required.

Scoring of Write Email

The response on Email Writing is based on the student’s ability to answer a situation in the way it is required rather trying to give vague answer. Email Writing score is based on seven parameters:

Content: Is the topic addressed accurately in the response?

Content score is based on the fact that whether the test taker addresses the given prompt sufficiently and accurately. All the aspects of the given situation are to be answered in the response. The adequacy of the response depends on all details such as explanations written to support your viewpoint. If the email demonstrates only some of the tasks and is not fully addressed then the given score is 2, if none of the given prompts are answered and are misunderstood then the score is ZERO. At least 100 words email should be written with adequacy to score 3 in Content.

Form: Is the response between the required length i.e.50 and 120 words?

The score of Form is based on the number of words written in the response. The student will receive 2 points if the response is between 50 and 120 words, if the word count is between 30-49 and 121-140 words the score in FORM is 1 and if it’s less than 30 and more than 140 than 0.

Email Conventions: If the email conventions are mentioned correctly as per the required format then the score is 2 and if few elements are missing and there is inconsistency then the score is 1 and if the email conventions are missing than the score is ZERO.

Organization: Is the response able to demonstrate good development of ideas and a logical structure?

Organizational structure plays a crucial role. Organization is 2 if the ideas are presented logically and clearly and the transitions are used in an effective way. A comprehensive response with the usage of a logical organizational pattern, the flow of the ideas, and the proper use of the linking words. The best responses consist of multiple paragraphs, such as one paragraph for each bullet point.

Vocabulary range: Is the good range of vocabulary used in the task response?
Vocabulary range score is derived based on the general usage of the words that are appropriate according to the given topic and are derived from the academic scenario. Synonyms, phrases, and the academically and technically related terms are also evaluated if used appropriately. The best answer uses only the academically authentic words to signify appropriately and also avoids repetition by using synonyms.

Grammar usage: Is the answer grammatically and mechanically demonstrated in written English?
The structure, punctuation, and capitalization of the written response analyze the use of grammar and mechanics. The best answers contain complex sentences, proper use of grammar, and convey the intended meaning using tenses, active-passive voice, and punctuation.

Spelling: Is the answer based on standard rules of spilling?
PTE Academic accepts either the United States English conventions of spelling, or those of the United Kingdom, Australia, and Canada. However, candidates must use only one spelling convention throughout their response to each given question.

Note

  • Partial credit scoring applies to Email Writing but if the irrelevant responses in provided then the score will be ZERO.

  • Only this activity affects the score of the Writing Module.

  • A wide range of vocabulary and knowledge on diverse topics helps  you in scoring better.

  • If there is proper planning, work gets done within the time period allocated.

  • You will be able to complete the paper before time, and still have time to go through to revise a response and correct the spellings and grammatical mistakes as well.
