How To Answer Reading and Writing: Fill In The Blanks?

1. Scan the whole text for the overall sense of the paragraph. This will provide you the idea on the topic the passage is written upon. Then, begin re-reading the sentence to select the suitable option for the first BLANK. Select the word which makes meaning in the context.
2. Read the sentence to determine what is the requirement, for example, is it the noun, adjective, adverb or verb needed. If it is verb then in which tense and that will depend on the passage.
3. Collocations will assist you a lot in selecting the word needed. Think of about collocation while selecting the word.
4. After selecting the options for the given blanks. Skim the whole passage and go to the NEXT one.

Strategies to Follow

Improve Reading Skills: Read short passages, attempt to summarize the main points of the text. While reading the text observe the sentence structure and attempt to determine the verb tense patterns.
