You should say:

·         How was it made?

·         What does it look like?

What is the object?

In today’s modern world, we are surrounded by artificial creations which are designed and made by machines, so it is very rare to find something handcrafted. One object that I find particularly beautiful is a handcrafted statue of Lord Buddha. I came across this stunning piece at a Tibetan market near Manali, and it immediately caught my attention.

How was it made?

The statue was carved entirely by hand, with no machines used in its creation. The artisan employed hand tools to carve the stone meticulously, which gives it a truly unique and personal touch.

How was it made?

The statue itself is black in colour, covered with a layer of golden paint that gives it an aesthetic and serene look. The Buddha’s eyes are closed in a meditative position, with a smile on its face and a shank-like shape atop its head. The overall posture of the statue conveys peace and calmness, evoking a sense of relaxation and mindfulness. The meditative expression embodies a message of tranquility, love, and compassion, which I find deeply moving.

Explain why you find it particularly beautiful?

What makes this statue particularly beautiful to me is not only its visual appeal but also the purpose behind its creation. Each detail seems to represent a profound message of peace, and the craftsmanship is extraordinary. Though the statue is fragile and quite costly due to its handmade nature, I believe every penny spent on it is worth the beauty and significance it brings. I placed it on a shelf in my room, where it spreads positivity and creates a calm atmosphere. My friends and family admire it, and some have even considered purchasing similar pieces for themselves. It also complements the interior of my room, adding a peaceful aura that I treasure. So, this object which I found significant.

Follow Ups

How do you take care and maintain the object’s beauty?
To maintain the object’s beauty, I make sure to clean and dust it regularly to prevent any dirt or grime from building up. I use suitable cleaning products that are gentle and safe for the materials, and I always follow any specific care guidelines that come with the item. I also ensure that it’s stored in a stable environment, away from direct sunlight or extreme temperature changes. I avoid placing heavy objects near it to prevent any accidental damage, and from time to time, I inspect it for any signs of wear or deterioration that might need professional attention.

How do you come to acquire or discover beautiful objects around?
I often uncover beautiful objects by maintaining a sense of curiosity and actively exploring my environment. Whether through travel, visiting art galleries, or browsing online, remaining receptive to new experiences frequently leads me to discover aesthetically captivating items. Additionally, interacting with a diverse network of people and seeking recommendations from friends, family, or colleagues often introduces me to remarkable pieces. Personal connections and shared experiences can reveal hidden treasures and unique expressions of beauty.

Do you think your perception of the object's beauty has evolved over time, or has it remained consistent?
Yes, my perception of the object’s beauty has evolved over time. When I was younger, I had less knowledge and understanding of art, history, and craftsmanship. However, as I’ve grown older and gained more insight into these areas, I’ve come to appreciate the object on a much deeper level. I now recognize its historical significance, artistic value, and the craftsmanship involved in its creation, which has enhanced my appreciation for it. That said, the core beauty of the object has remained constant, and its appeal continues to resonate with me, despite my evolving understanding.

If you were to describe the emotional or sensory impact of the object, how would you express it?
The Buddha statue has a profound emotional and sensory effect, fostering a deep sense of calm and serenity. Its peaceful demeanour invites reflection and mindfulness, making the atmosphere feels tranquil and balanced. The delicate texture and soft golden sheen of the statue create a serene, almost spiritual presence. It serves as a constant reminder to pause and reconnect with a sense of inner peace, promoting relaxation and reducing stress. The overall energy of the statue brings a soothing and harmonious vibe to the space, enhancing the overall sense of well-being.
