PTE Core: Overview and Test Format Breakdown

A comprehensive guide to the PTE Core test format, including an overview of its components and structure.

PTE Core is a new test introduced by Pearson Test of English. This is a computer-based English test that evaluates your general reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills in a single sitting of 2 hours only. IRCC Canada accepts PTE Core for migration or work. This language proficiency test is of prime importance to those who intend to move to Canada by virtue of job opportunities, migration, or citizenship. The test is a must for any person intending to settle in Canada. 

 

Understand the Test Format

 

The test has three parts: Speaking & Writing, Reading & Listening.

The first part combines the two skills of speaking and writing. It usually around 50 minutes to complete. It has seven question types.

 

Reading is the second part of the exam; it includes five question types and is about 30 minutes long.

  • Multiple choice, choose single answer

 

Last part is Listening, it is around 30 minutes long and contains seven different question types. The questions are based on audio or video clips, which begins to play automatically. You hear each audio or video clip only once. You are allowed to take notes.
