The Pearson Test of English serves as a requirement when studying, working, or migrating to English-speaking countries. As of 8th August 2024, Pearson made a few adjustments to the current Retake Policy in a move guaranteeing that this process for all test-takers goes forward in a more structured and fair way.
Retakes Allowed, But with Conditions
- A candidate can only book another test upon issuing the scores for the previous attempt. It takes into account that a test-taker needs time to reflect on his performance prior to booking another attempt.
- Candidates can only book one test at a time. That avoids overloading the system and ensures that everybody gets fair access to the test slots.
- A test can be booked six months prior to the test date, which allows candidates to plan their preparation and testing accordingly.
Limited Number of Retakes
Under the new policy, candidates can have up to 12 attempts within a 12-month period. This cap is introduced to protect the security of PTE question banks and to prevent people from booking tests for the purpose of collecting exam information. Pearson is confident that genuine students will not be disadvantaged by this policy.
If you actually need more than 12 attempts, you should fill in an exception form to ask for one.
Multiple Accounts not allowed
Pearson does not allow the creation of multiple accounts, working around the retake limits of the test. This may be regarded as a severe infringement, such that test scores could be cancelled, and a possible future ban from taking the PTE.
